To note, the Committee for Brisbane remains the same legal entity and its ownership does not change. It is still a not-for-profit and its activities, objectives and strategic direction remain unchanged.

On 31 August, 2026 the Committee for Brisbane was officially registered by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission as a Company Limited by Guarantee.

This milestone follows a year of collaboration and engagement with members on modernising and simplifying the Committee for Brisbane’s governance structures. The transition from an Incorporated Association to a Company Limited by Guarantee was unanimously endorsed at a Special General Meeting of members on 1 April, 2026.

On Monday, 7 September, 2026, the Company’s ‘First Directors’ were confirmed, with the Management Committee transitioning to become the Board of Directors.

Mike Kissane (Deloitte) has been endorsed as Board Chair, while Jacob Anson (Australian Olympic Committee) and Shannon Willoughby (UQ) have been endorsed as Deputy Chairs. Meredith Hartigan will continue in her role as Secretary.

The Company’s first Annual General Meeting will be held on 18 November, 2026. At the AGM, all current Directors will step down and members will be asked to elect up to 7 Directors from the membership.

While members will see minimal impact from this change, having a new, modernised governance structure will provide greater autonomy to the Board and allow the Committee for Brisbane to focus on its role in championing the liveability of the city.

The Committee for Brisbane extends its thanks to all the members who have supported us through this time of change, and have ‘opted in’ to become a member of the new Company. We are excited for what the future holds for Brisbane!
