LAUNCHING OUR 2023-24 THOUGHT LEADERSHIP PUBLICATION
Designing our future: Economic, environmental & social opportunities for south east Queensland.
In 2023, we approached our Corporate Leader community for the opportunity to write an article in our annual Thought Leadership Publication.
We are delighted to release our 2023-24 Thought Leadership Publication “Designing our Future: Economic, environmental & social opportunities for south east Queensland” .
This year’s 2023-24 Publication focuses on the future of Greater Brisbane/SEQ and shares insights from a range of business and community leaders with a passion for shaping a better Brisbane. The Thought Leadership Publication stands as a powerful platform, enabling our members to share and advocate for region-shaping initiatives. It identifies challenges whilst articulating opportunities for positive transformation within our region.

SUB COMMITTEES UPDATE
Our four sub-committees have started the year off with a bang.
2023 was a big year with 67 Committee for Brisbane members participating in one of our four new sub-committees established to reflect our strategic pillars of Connectivity, Creativity, Enterprise and Equity. The sub-committee’s meet regularly sharing ideas and shaping plans for projects and initiatives to be undertaken this year.
In 2024, sub-committees will be further refining and finalizing their project ideas and commence delivery on their initiatives and projects.
We look forward to keeping you updated on future initiatives, projects and events as they roll out this year.
SEQ LIVEABILITY FUND
The Australian Government, Queensland Government and Council of Mayors (SEQ) have partnered to establish the SEQ Liveability Fund as one of the key commitments being delivered under the SEQ City Deal.
The initial assessment phase is now complete, and SEQ local Councils with eligible projects are now progressing to the detailed application stage. During which they stand to secure a portion of over $285 million allocated for local infrastructure projects under this Fund.
The new funding will be invested in projects including the transformation of Victoria Park/Barrambin, construction and upgrades of parks, playgrounds and waterside activation at Waterford West, Mooloolaba, Caboolture and Petrie as well as a new mixed-use community building at Redcliffe to help to build healthier, liveable and more inclusive, connected communities in South East Queensland.
Regional sporting and recreation facilities in Ipswich, Logan, Noosa, Redlands and Toowoomba have also been selected to drive engagement in local sport in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. These projects would include a new sports facility in Toowoomba as well as upgrades to sporting and aquatic centres.
Connectivity continues to be a key issue for the Committee, and we will continue to welcome projects that not only enhance liveability but also foster seamless connectivity across our region.

HOME FOR QUEENSLANDERS PLAN
The Committee for Brisbane welcomed the opportunity to be part of the Queensland Media Club event on Tuesday 5 February to hear from Premier Steven Miles MP on his vision for building Queensland’s future.
Premier Miles outlined the key pillars of the plan which are to build more homes, faster; support Queensland renters; help first homeowners into the market; boost our social housing; and work towards ending homelessness.
The focus of the Plan will be on:
- Housing affordability with the introduction of a $350 million Incentivising Infill Fund to stimulate the development, piloting new inclusionary planning projects and streamlining approvals through a new state facilitated development team.
- Rental Market by providing $160 million for a Renters Relief Package, consulting on the introduction of a new rental sector code of conduct and a portable bond scheme.
- Home Ownership through trial increase of the Queensland Housing Finance Loan in regional areas, targeted home ownership support for First Nations peoples aspiring to own a home and doubling the First Home Owners Grant to $30,000 until 30 June 2025.
- Social Housing with 53,500 new social homes by 2046, delivering more Youth Foyers, domestic and family violence shelters, and supported accommodation and purchasing more properties exiting the National Rental Affordability Scheme.
- Homelessness with a 20 per cent funding boost for frontline services, expanding critical housing response funding to individuals and couples and more temporary supported accommodation in the regions.
- Legislation and reform through reviewing the Housing Act 2003, releasing the Disability Housing Action Plan and progressing the Our Place: A First Nations Housing and Homelessness Action Plan 2024-2027.

TOGETHER IN TOUCH TOURNAMENT
