Committees for Capital Cities
The Committee for Capital Cities is a collective of the nation’s civic advocacy groups, based in the capital cities of Brisbane, Greater Hobart, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney.
It sets out a practical agenda for national urban policy, with six priorities that are grounded in place and designed to deliver the liveability, vibrancy and productivity Australia needs to thrive for generations to come.
Parliamentary Friends of Cities
On 14 October 2025, the Committee for Capital Cities officially launched the Federal Parliamentary Friends of Cities group, and announced the incoming Co Chairs:
The Parliamentary Friends of Cities has subsequently held two events:
Future Cities: From Ambition to Action was held in the Great Hall at Parliament House on 30 October 2025, where the role of the nation’s capital cities as central hubs for housing, education, health, innovation and community services was discussed by the co-chairs, along with key government and industry representatives. Over 200 attendees across the membership of the Committee for Capital Cities were in attendance.
On 17 August 2026, the Parliamentary Friends of Cities held
a networking event in the Speaker’s Courtyard at Parliament House, to further
the dialogue with policy-makers in the nation’s capital. This invitation-only
event allowed senior members of the Committee for Capital Cities to engage
directly with elected representatives.
