Federal Election 2025
This Saturday, 3 May, will see Australians head to voting booths across the country for the 2025 Federal Election.
The third election for Queenslanders in just over 12 months, this election is expected to see record numbers of voters cast their votes early at pre-poll booths, rather than wait until election day on Saturday.
Across the campaign, major party policies have focused heavily on cost of living, housing, health and energy. Unlike previous campaigns, there has been little in the way of major announcements around public infrastructure or support for city development.
Those wishing to vote early can do so up until Friday, 2 May, with further information on voting options available here.
The Committee for Brisbane wishes all candidates well and looks forward to working with elected representatives on furthering our vision of Greater Brisbane as the world’s most liveable place.
SEQ City Deal Update
Three years on from the three levels of government signing the $1.8 billion SEQ City Deal, many of the Deal’s 29 commitments are coming to fruition.
Along with the opening of the Kangaroo Point Bridge in December, last month saw 8 new projects approved under the SEQ Innovation Economy Fund, the release of the Benchmarking SEQ report (in partnership with the Committee for Brisbane), and approval of all 25 liveability fund projects.
As a member of the SEQ City Deal Industry Reference Group, the Committee for Brisbane has been provided an update on all 29 commitments.

Business of the Games- Artificial Intelligence
Earlier this month, the Committee for Brisbane convened some of the brightest minds in Artificial Intelligence for a conversation on how new technologies and ways of thinking may impact the planning and delivery of the Brisbane Games.
Attendees at the event were treated to a wide-ranging discussion, expertly moderated by Fahim Khondaker, Partner at BDO.
With topics as broad as data and governance structures, through to how spectators may experience the event in 2032 and ways that collective intelligence can benefit decision-making, there is no doubt these Games are set to be the most intelligent and inclusive yet.
The Committee thanks Fahim and BDO for hosting the event, and also the experts joining the panel discussion:
- Bruce Muirhead- Mindhive
- Michelle Teis- Evinact
- Chris Carter- Griffith Film School
We look forward to future conversations with members around utilising new ways of thinking and working to boost the region’s productivity.
