National Reconciliation Week 2025
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is observed each year from 27 May to 3 June.
It’s a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation.
This year’s NRW theme is ‘Bridging Now to Next’, offering us a unique time to reflect on the connection between past, present and future.
The theme calls on all Australians to step forward together, looking ahead and continuing the push forward as past lessons guide us.
The Committee for Brisbane has a long standing commitment to NRW, and is continued to be guided by inclusivity and its important role in shaping Greater Brisbane’s future.

New Legislation for 2032
Following the release of the 100 Day Review and 2032 Delivery Plan, the Queensland Government has introduced new legislative amendments to streamline the completion of Games venues, villages and transport infrastructure.
The legislation aims to strengthen the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games Arrangements (BOPGA) Act 2021 with a specific focus on efficient planning approval processes and clear responsibilities for a successful Games.
As part of this, the total number of directors on the Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee Board will reduce while a Games Leadership Group will also be stood up to provide oversight and coordination of Games entities.
As identified in the 2032 Delivery Plan, the Department of Sport, Racing and Olympic and Paralympic Games will lead the Games Coordination Plan while the Department of Transport and Main Roads will now prepare the Transport and Mobility Strategy.
The legislative changes are another key step towards a world class Games that delivers lasting legacy infrastructure for not only Greater Brisbane but Queensland.
Formal market engagement: Gabba entertainment precinct
In an exciting first step for the 2032 Delivery Plan, formal market engagement has kicked off for the Gabba entertainment and housing precinct.
Interested proponents are now invited to register their interest, through the Queensland Government, in transforming the nine-hectare inner-city Woolloongabba precinct. The opportunity covers the former GoPrint site and The Gabba stadium after the 2032 Games.
Only just two kilometres from the CBD, the combined sites are connected to key public transport infrastructure including the South East Busway and future Woolloongabba Cross River Rail Station.

Kedron Brook Revitalisation
Brisbane City Council has announced public consultation on its 20-year plan to turn Kedron Brook into a green precinct.
The $85 million Kedron Brook Revitalisation Vision and Master Plan will renew and improve over 29 kilometres of catchment across 14 Brisbane suburbs from Ferny Grove to Nudgee.
The total catchment is made up of four key precincts that will be identified for revitalisation and flood resilience works. The plan will see active transport pathways, new and improved natural spaces, and new habitat creek banks to improve functionality and waterflow.
The first round of community consultation will close on Sunday, 29 June 2025, with a second round of consultation to emerge once the draft vision and draft master plan are finalised.

At 85 years old, the Story Bridge is starting to show its age!
At 85 years old, the Story Bridge is starting to show its age!
Perhaps not as urgent a situation as the news headlines would suggest… but major work is needed soon on this iconic connector of people and places to arrest the deterioration and ensure its continued utility for decades to come.
In a recent warts-and-all stakeholder briefing with the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Cr Adrian Schrinner and Andrew Wines, Civil Cabinet Chair of Infrastructure laid out the facts, along with options to fund and deliver critical maintenance works.
Tripartite government funding? User charges? Special rates levy? Corporate sponsorships or donations? Or another option, a city-wide congestion charge?
It will be a costly exercise, but as a nationally significant piece of infrastructure, it is vital that funding is secured so works can commence before the bridge is beyond repair.
First priority is getting the footpath open again (and installing netting to catch the bits of crumbling concrete!), with continued planning work and examination of funding options to be undertaken concurrently.
Great work from Story Bridge Restoration Committee, including chairman Nigel Chamier who is clearly up to the challenge.
