The 67th Annual General Meeting of the Committee for Brisbane Inc will be held at 5.00pm (Brisbane time) on Wednesday, 20 November 2024 at the offices of McCullough Robertson, Level 11, 66 Eagle Street, Brisbane.

FAQs

Only financial Members (or nominated representatives of financial Members, where the Member is a corporation or organisation) are eligible to nominate for election to the Management Committee.

Life Members, Student Members and Affiliates are not eligible to nominate for any position.

At the AGM, the following positions are required to be filled:

  • 1 x President
  • 2 x Vice-Presidents
  • Up to three (3) others (Ordinary Members), and

For the three Ordinary Member positions, the places are required to be filled by:

  • up to two Members or nominated representatives from the Corporate Leader member category
  • up to one Member or nominated representatives from the Corporate Member category.

Any two financial Members (or nominated representatives of financial Members, where the Member is a corporation or organisation) can nominate and second a candidate for election.

Eligibility to vote at the AGM – one vote per Member – is limited to (financial):

  • Corporate Leaders, or their nominated representative where the Member is a corporation or organisation
  • Corporate Members, or their nominated representative where the Member is a corporation or organisation
  • Enterprise Members, or their nominated representative where the Member is a corporation or organisation
  • Associate Members
  • Life Members

Student Members and Affiliates are not eligible to vote.

The Management Committee of the Association consists of elected Members or nominated representatives of Members.

In accordance with the Committee for Brisbane Constitution

  • “Member” means a Person that has consented to become a Member of the Association and that is accepted as a Member by the Management Committee.
  • “Person” means every individual, business, firm, company, corporation, association, professional body, organisation or body of persons.

In the case of a Member that is a “business, firm, company, corporation, association, professional body, organisation or body of persons”, that Member may appoint an individual to be its nominated representative to stand for election to the Management Committee and/or vote at the AGM.

A financial Member, or their nominated representative where the Member is a corporation or organisation, may cast one vote only.

With the exception of Student Members who are not eligible, any financial Member, or their nominated representative where the Member is a corporation or organisation, may nominate for any Executive position. The Executive positions to be filled at the AGM are:

  • 1 x President
  • 2 x Vice-Presidents

The Executive positions are:

  • 1 x President
  • 2 x Vice-Presidents
  • 1 x Secretary
  • 1 x Treasurer

Management Committee members are elected to represent the interest of the membership of the Committee for Brisbane and are expected to use their best endeavours to:

  • Attend Management Committee meetings – 6 meetings per year from February to December. Meetings generally last for 90-120 minutes and are held at a time and day that is suitable to the Management Committee
  • Attend out-of-cycle meetings and workshops, on key governance issues such as audit and risk, strategic planning, and branding and engagement
  • Executive Members (President, Vice-Presidents, Treasurer and Secretary) are expected to attend a monthly Executive meeting with the CEO. Meetings generally last for a maximum of 60 minutes and are held at a time and day that is suitable to the Executive
  • Attend Committee for Brisbane events
  • Participate on relevant sub-committees of the Management Committee and/or sub-committees of the Committee for Brisbane

(Subject to the Constitution) the term of any Member of the Management Committee is for 2 years from the AGM at which they are elected.

(Subject to eligibility) a Management Committee member may nominate for re-election at a subsequent AGM.

Nominations open on Thursday, 31 October 2024.

Nominations close at 5.00pm (AEST) on Monday, 11 November 2024.

  2. Confirm you are a financial Member of the Committee for Brisbane; or in the case of a Member that is a corporation or organisation, that the Member is financial and you have approval to be the Member’s nominated representative
  3. Fill in your details on the nomination form
  4. Organise for a mover and seconder of your nomination – both must be financial Members, or representatives of financial Members if the Member is a corporation or organisation. You may self-nominate, ie be either the mover or seconder of your own nomination
  5. Submit the completed nomination form no later than 5.00pm (AEST) on Monday 11 November 2024 via either:

Nominations received after 5.00pm (AEST) on Monday 11 November 2024 will not be valid.

It is the responsibility of the person nominating for election to organise for a mover and seconder and to submit the nomination form.

It is not a requirement for a person nominating for election to be present at the AGM, provided a correctly completed nomination form has been submitted by the close of nominations deadline.

A financial Member, or their nominated representative where the Member is a corporation or organisation, may cast a vote or votes at the AGM by proxy.

A proxy form is available from 30 October.

The proxy must be given to the Secretary of the Committee for Brisbane prior to the commencement of the AGM; or returned prior to the commencement of the AGM to either:

It is the responsibility of the person wishing to vote by proxy to organise the individual to be their proxy, and an alternate person to be their proxy if desired, and to submit the proxy form.

A proxy form is available on the Committee for Brisbane website, at the AGM tab (from 12 November).

The proxy must be given to the Secretary of the Committee for Brisbane prior to the commencement of the AGM; or returned prior to the commencement of the AGM to either:

If there are more eligible candidates than positions available, voting will take place during the AGM in accordance with the agenda.

Voting will be conducted by secret ballot during the AGM, in accordance with the agenda.

Two returning officers will be appointed to count the ballots and declare the outcome during the AGM.

The AGM will be required to elect:

You do not need to register to attend the AGM.

The AGM is open to financial Members only.
