City Vitality Report is back for the seventh year!

It’s back, bigger and better than ever!

Last year’s City Vitality Report showed a bounce back across all sectors, with the most noticeable uptick being in the tourism industry… thanks in part to the incredibly successful FIFA Women’s World Cup in July 2023.

Fast forward 12 months, and this year’s report will branch out to look at two new sectors- health, and arts & culture. Exploring beyond the facts and figures, the Report’s fresh new look also profiles the people and businesses investing in the future of Brisbane.

Join us on 14 November for a lively discussion on the inner city’s 2024 highlights, and a serious conversation on the steps we must take now to achieve our aspirations for the city centre when it is showcased globally as the ‘venue’ for the 2032 Games.

With thanks to our Research Partners Dexus, South Bank Corporation and Urban Economics

City of Logan New Multipurpose Indoor Stadium

The Committee for Brisbane is excited for our members, the City of Logan, on the announcement of a new $142.1 million Olympic standard multipurpose indoor stadium for the region, due to be completed by 2028.

The new stadium will be a universally accessible facility, featuring nine indoor courts across two separate halls that can accommodate a range of sports, para sports and large-scale events.

The new facility, capable of hosting 7000 spectators, could potentially be used as a training and competition venue during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

As we look towards the Brisbane 2032 Games, new facilities in fast growing areas like Logan will not only benefit the community through promoting active living, but will provide a legacy for future athletes and sports enthusiasts.

First Nations’ Board Observers Project

Over the past twelve months, the Committee for Brisbane has partnered with Deloitte and CareerTrackers to look at how to increase First Nations’ representation on Boards. The aim of the project was to provide a platform for First Nations’ individuals to gain experience, build confidence, and contribute their unique perspectives to corporate governance.

Through the project, nine CareerTracker alumni were matched with Deloitte, Aurecon, Healthy Land and Water, Committee for Brisbane, QIC and Preston Campbell Foundation, to observe board and committee meetings to gain governance and board exposure.

On 16 September, the Committee for Brisbane held a meeting to finalise the project with the Board Observers, Corporate Partners and First Nations’ Advisory Group members to hear about their experiences and learnings from the project.

Feedback was very positive, with Board Observers sharing that they gained insight into how board meetings are run, discussions unfold, and decisions are made.

The Committee for Brisbane would like to thank you all the stakeholders involved in ensuring such as successful project.

Q2032 Industry Advisory Group

Committee for Brisbane is pleased to be a member of the Q2032 Industry Advisory Group, established in late 2023 to provide insights and advice to Government so Queensland businesses benefit from Brisbane 2032.

Previously facilitated by the Brisbane 2032 Coordination Office within Government, the Group is now led by the Games Venues and Legacy Delivery Authority (GVLDA). Its focus is to facilitate partnerships and engagement between industry and the GVLDA on Games issues and opportunities.

The meeting in September provided an opportunity for the 18 industry groups – including Committee for Brisbane- and relevant government agencies to hear more about the milestones and work program of GVLDA, and discuss learnings from the recent Games in Paris.

Meeting in person approximately four times per year, the Q2032 Procurement Strategy is a key area of focus for the Q2032 IAG.

SEQ City Deal Industry Reference Group and funding update

The $1.8 billion SEQ City Deal was signed in March 2022 by the Australian Government, Queensland Government and the Council of Mayors (SEQ). It will deliver 29 commitments to enhance the liveability and connectivity of South East Queensland.

The Committee for Brisbane sits on the Industry Reference Group, one of the advisory groups established under agreed governance mechanisms for the SEQ City Deal.

The reformed group met with the City Deal Partners on 5 September, where an update was provided on progress on key commitments and input sought from the group.

$150m investment in infrastructure to boost the region’s innovation economy was announced over the weekend, through the SEQ Innovation Economy Fund.

Funding of up to $5m is available for minor capital projects including refurbishments and the purchase and installation of new equipment, and is available to eligible local governments, industry, public and private entities to help grow high-value, knowledge-intensive jobs across the region.

Applications and more information is available here.

Also of interest to members is progress on the Smart Region Digital Plan, led by Council of Mayors (SEQ), which the Committee for Brisbane and its members have provided significant input to throughout its development.

The Plan seeks to inform the development of local digital priority projects, and is supported by a $50m commitment. It is anticipated to be released in early 2025.

Other updates of interest include:

  • Progress on a pilot Regional Growth Corridor Place, tying place-based infrastructure to land use growth with threshold-based requirements
  • $13m grant funding under the $100m Growth Area Compact to enable infrastructure delivery to support affordable housing options in Waraba (Caboolture West)
